Many projects by the Austrian design duo mischer’traxler are focusing not only on the result but especially on the process of creating. Projects like “the idea of a tree” or “collective works” are finalised by external influences like the weather or the behaviour of the audience and therefore result in unique outcomes. Whilst Items of some of their series may seem quite the same at first glance, at a closer look, one notices that every object is slightly different from another. All the objects of a series are similar, yet unique.
For their exhibition “similarly unique”, mischer’traxler are addressing these minor differences among some products by juxtaposing two objects of a kind and showing them as being mirrored in the BOX. One has to look twice to notice the slight differences in the mirrored counterpart. The creations are let to reflect in themselves, emphasizing on both, their resemblance and singularity. The Idea of a tree, Mirror- layered me, Reversed volumes and Baskets are some of the exhibited projects.

Short biography – mischer’traxler:
Studio mischer‘traxler was found in 2009 by Katharina Mischer (1982) and Thomas Traxler (1981) after graduating from the IM master course of the Design Academy Eindhoven and several years of collaboration. Based in Vienna, the studio develops and designs products, furniture, installations and more, with a focus on experiments, conceptual thinking and the given context. Balancing between hand craft and technology, they envision whole systems, processes and new production methods that deal with contemporary themes and the relevance of nature. Their results make use of unexpected materials and are often characterized by external inputs, for example the condition of the weather, human interaction or the usage of the existing.
Exhibitions on contemporary Design displayed their projects in Museums including the Boijmans van Boiningen, the Design Museum London and the Triennale Milano, as well as on International Festivals. Projects by mischer’traxler are in the permanent collections of the Art institute Chicago and the MAK Vienna. They won several awards and in 2011 studio mischer’traxler was honoured with the ‘W-hotels designer of the future award’ by Design Miami/Basel.
